Personal Finance
Why I built CeeWealth - and what I was trying to solve.
A while back I started trying to get a proper handle on my finances. Not just checking my bank balance - actually understanding my net worth, where my money was going, and whether I was making any real progress over time.
I tried the obvious apps. Most of them wanted to connect directly to my bank account via open banking. A few wanted that connection just to show me a graph I could have made in a spreadsheet. And nearly all of them were clearly built around a secondary business model - using your financial data to push credit cards, loans, or "exclusive offers" at you.
That's not a criticism of those products. It's just not what I wanted. I didn't want to hand over read access to my accounts to a third party. I didn't want my financial picture used for targeting. I just wanted a clean, honest tool that tracked my numbers - without an agenda attached to it.
I couldn't find one that fit. So I built one.
CeeWealth is a manual-entry net worth tracker. There's no bank connection, no open banking, no third-party data sharing. You log your own balances - savings, investments, pensions, crypto, property, liabilities - and CeeWealth handles everything else.
It takes about 30 seconds to update when you check your accounts. In return you get a full financial picture: trends, projections, a health score, tax year reports, and a proper view of where you actually stand.
The manual approach is a deliberate choice. Your data stays yours. There's no OAuth token sitting with a third party, no read access to your transactions, no way for CeeWealth to see anything you haven't explicitly chosen to enter. Given how I feel about data privacy in general - if you've read any of my other posts you'll know where I stand on that - it was the only approach I was comfortable building.
Every account in one view - liquid savings, investments, retirement, and liabilities. Historical trends across any time range so you can see actual progress, not just a snapshot.
A live score out of 100 built from five factors: net worth, investment ratio, debt, retirement savings, and emergency fund. It tells you what's dragging your number down and what to fix first - not just a vanity metric.
UK-specific reporting covering employment income, dividends, bank interest, and capital gains. CGT is calculated at 18% against your real cost basis - useful if you hold stocks or crypto and want to stay on top of your HMRC position without paying an accountant to do the maths.
Log buys and sells across any coin or token. CeeWealth calculates your average cost basis and shows your real-time CGT exposure on unrealised gains. With HMRC increasing scrutiny on crypto holdings, knowing your position before self assessment is genuinely useful.
See where you're headed at 6 months, 1 year, and 5 years based on your actual historical growth rate. Not a generic calculator - it uses your own data to extrapolate forward.
Log transactions by category, set financial goals with target dates, and track all income sources - employment, freelance, dividends, rental, benefits. Everything in one place.
CeeWealth is built for people who take their finances seriously but don't want to hand over bank access to do it. If you're comfortable spending 30 seconds a week updating a few balances in exchange for a clear, private financial picture - it's for you.
It's particularly useful if you have a mix of accounts - savings, a stocks and shares ISA, a pension, maybe some crypto - and you want to see everything in one place without stitching together spreadsheets.
It's UK-focused. The tax reporting is built around UK tax years, CGT rates, ISA allowances, and HMRC requirements. If you're based elsewhere it'll still work for tracking purposes, but the tax features won't be relevant to you.
CeeWealth is £2.99/month or £29.99/year - one plan, everything included, no upsells. There's a 3-day free trial so you can see whether it works for you before committing to anything.
I'm not interested in building a free tier that monetises your data to make up the difference.
The subscription is the product. Your data isn't.
If any of this sounds useful, the best thing to do is just try it. The trial takes seconds to set up and is secured via Stripe.
